Less Waste
A COMMITMENT MADE WITH
BANANA REPUBLIC
The limited edition initiative involved creating small batch collections, using locally sourced deadstock fabrics.
From 2015 to 2017 Sonia led the Women’s Design team at Banana Republic.  During this time Sonia spearheaded a limited edition initiative, creating small batch capsule collections designed to sell out.

The project involved partnering with a state-of-the-art, family-owned production facility in Portugal called Petratex.  The commitment to Less Waste transcended the whole process. From the time taken to develop and produce the styles, to the number of samples made to the number of team members traveling to Portugal.

During a 2 year period, Sonia and a team of 3 worked with Petratex to design and produce 4 limited edition collections.

Less Waste
By The Numbers
100%
Locally sourced
deadstock fabrics
Using locally sourced deadstock fabric means no resources are wasted on producing new fabric. Local fabric means less distance for the fabric to travel to the factory.
60%
Less prototype
samples developed
Working face to face with the Petratex means the vision is never lost in translation. The result: fewer revisions and 60% less samples developed.
100%
Sell-throughs
achieved
The limited edition model creates scarcity.  Scarcity creates demand.  Demand ensures that everything produced is sold, nothing is left to waste.
